Surgical Procedures....

Blepharoplasty: (eyelid surgery, eyelid lift) Eyelid lift or surgery provides dramatic results creating a more youthful and rested appearance to the focal area of the face.  The incisions are designed to fall in the natural crease of the upper eye lid and below the lash line in the lower lid.  Excess fat and skin can then be addressed and removed.  If only fat removal is required from the lower eyelids, an incision placed on the inside of the eyelid can be performed.  Eyelid surgery can be performed under local anesthesia in the office or as an outpatient under sedation.

Brow Lift/Forehead Lift: A forehead lift is very effective in re-establishing elevation of a drooping eyebrow, decreasing forehead wrinkles, and providing a more youthful and rested appearance.  This can be performed as an outpatient under local anesthesia or sedation.  Endoscopic techniques with small incisions allow for more rapid recovery.  This can be performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery and facelift surgery.

Traditional Facelift (Rhytidectomy) As we age, certain parts of the face will droop, sag, or develop wrinkles.  This is most pronounced in the jowl and neck area. Facelift surgery can restore the youthful appearance and structure.  The incisions are inconspicuous and well camouflaged.  They begin in the hairline near the temple and extend down in front of the ear.  The incision continues under the ear lobe, back behind the ear and into the hairline.  The procedure is tailored and modified to the individual needs of each patient.  The skin is elevated so that the underlying muscle and tissues (SMAS) can be repositioned and tightened to restore the natural contours that contribute to a more youthful appearance.  At the same time, fat can be removed.  The excess skin is trimmed and redraped to a more natural appearing position to smooth out your facial skin. For men, the incisions are placed in natural creases which do not disturb the natural beard lines.  A facelift can be performed alone or in conjunction with other procedures such as a forehead lift, eyelid surgery, or nose reshaping.  Dr. Lazor designs and tailors each operation to the individual needs, thus providing a very natural appearance.

Mini Facelift/Necklift These procedures have become increasingly popular over the past 10 years. They were developed for the individual looking for a less invasive procedure that can be performed under local anesthesia with minimal recovery time.  These procedures have been referred to as the “weekend” facelift and Dr. Lazor has been performing them for many years.  Because it is performed under local anesthesia, patient's recover very quickly with minimal down time.  The mini lift procedures include a mini facelift, mini necklift, and mini brow lift.

CANDIDATES
T
ypically between 30 and 65 years old, the best candidates are those in good health with mild to moderate lower facial and/or neck laxity. The mini facelift is ideal for patients who want to stay ahead of the aging process. It is also effective as a follow-up for patients who previously had full facelifts, but desire additional rejuvenation of the face and/or neck area. Likewise, it does not preclude undergoing full facelift procedures in the future.

PROCEDURES:
There are two basic procedures which can be performed.

The anterior mini is for patients concerned about their lower face. The procedure is straightforward: an anesthetic solution is injected into the area in front of the ears. This solution will numb the lower face, inhibit bleeding, and gently separate the skin from the underlying tissue. Once the area is numb, small incisions are made beginning just in front of the ear and proceed up into the hairline. Incisions within the hair require no shaving. The fascial plane is gently pulled to tighten the skin, and is supported with deep sutures. Excess skin is tailored, and incisions are closed with 6 to 8 fine sutures. The procedure takes about  1 ˝  to 2 hours. If necessary, some patients take a mild sedative beforehand.

The posterior mini facelift, sometimes referred to as a mini neck-lift, is for persons concerned about the neck and jowl area. An anesthetic solution is injected behind the ears. This solution will numb the lower face and neck and inhibit bleeding in the area. Once the area is numb, small incisions are made behind the ear and proceed up into the hairline. The skin is elevated and gently redraped. Two deep sutures are made in the fascial plane and excess skin is tailored. Eight to 10 fine sutures close the incisions.

RECOVERY
The mini facelift is often referred to as the "weekend" because that is the approximate duration for post-operative recovery, although it could be longer depending on the individual. Immediately after the procedure, an ace bandage will be wrapped under the chin and around the top of the head. This should be worn for the first 48 hours. It can be removed briefly to bathe and wash your hair. It should also be worn for the ensuing 5 nights. Sleeping with the head elevated will aid the recovery process. Post procedure discomfort may be relieved by the application of cold compresses and pain medication. Some patients may experience temporary bruising which can be camouflaged with makeup. Makeup may be applied immediately after the procedure. Sutures are removed after one week, and visible scars become very subtle over time.

DURATION
The duration of the result varies with a patient's lifestyle, sun exposure, skin type, and heredity. For most patients, however, the benefits from the mini facelift last between 5 and 7 years.

RISKS
Because these procedures are not as invasive as the traditional facelift, there is minimal risk of complications. However, as with any surgical procedure the risks of post-operative bleeding, infection of the wound, scarring, and/or nerve damage should be noted.

Rhinoplasty (nose reshaping)

Septoplasty (surgery to improve breathing)

Nasal surgery can have significant impact on both the appearance and function of the nose.  Dr. Lazor has authored many chapters on nasal surgery.  Changes in the nose may include removing bumps, narrowing the bridge, changing the appearance or angle of the nasal tip, or improving the facial proportions (nose/lip/chin proportions).  Chin implants are often placed at the same time to provide facial harmony.  Nasal obstruction and difficulties with breathing through the nose can be addressed and treated at the same time.  Surgery for the deviated septum is frequently covered by your insurance plan.

Otoplasty (ear reshaping) Surgery to the ear is usually performed for protuberant or prominent ears. This can be performed in children or adults. In children, it is usually performed after the ear has reached full-size, which is usually around five to six years of age. The timing of the surgery for a child is important to limit or reduce the psychological issues that often arise in school-age children. The surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia for children and can be performed with sedation or under general anesthesia for adults. It is a day surgery with the individual returning home that day. The incision is placed behind the ear and is well camouflaged in the skin crease. A dressing is worn for several days afterwards.

Skin Lesion/Mole Removal Men and women are often troubled by various pigmented or elevated lesions that develop on the face, ears, or neck over time.  These can easily be removed in the office under local anesthesia.  The incision is designed to fall within a skin crease in order to camouflage the scar.  The stitches remain in place five to seven days.  If there is any concern of the appearance of the lesion, it is sent to the pathologist for complete review.
